CLASSES

Classes are provided by the KRC (Kettering Recreation Complex), the instructors are USA Fencing professional members and work for KRC.  Register for classes at playkettering.org in person, or by phone (937) 296-2587.  Minimum age for classes is 10.


GETTING STARTED

Beginning Classes are for fencers with no previous experience.  Beginning Classes are 2-4 months long depending on schedule.  If you have some experience but are unclear where to start send us an email.  Intermediate through Competitive classes are offered to provide ongoing continued development for hobby up to competition nationally.


Register for a class and pay through the KRC, and before your first class, or fencing with us you will need to fill out several forms - goto our ‘FORMS’ page for details (includes gear rental information).


Be prepared to exercise, you should come to class in tennis shoes and long pants.  If you have any other questions contact afadinc@gmail.com


CANCELATIONS

If the weather is bad, class may be canceled.  Contact the location of your class to see if class has been canceled.  For Open Fencing holiday schedule cancelations check our home page announcements.

KRC will contact you through your contact information provided when registering if there is a COVID related cancelation.


KRC is generally accommodating of prorating classes, or issuing refunds if the fencer knows they can not make the entire program - ask someone at the front desk.



BEGINNING FENCING CLASSES

For the absolute beginner, classes are multiple months long and can not be joined in the middle with out previous experience or instructor approval.  The class teaches the basic information for the sport of fencing, and prepare the student to self supervise and fence their classmates using electric scoring equipment. Come to class in tennis shoes and long pants.



INTERMEDIATE & ADVANCED FENCING CLASSES

Various levels of classes will be offered to provide a balance of class size and experience of fencers who have completed the Beginning Classes.  Classes are all foil, and consist of group activities / games, electric fencing of classmates, and some individual instruction.

Serious fencers wanting to improve or compete should take multiple classes a week, send us an email or talk to your coach about goals and training.



Saber

This Class is specific to the weapon of Saber.  No experience is required, but it is recommended that Saber fencers take Foil classes in addition to Saber.


Unlimited Fencing

Allows fencers to take all / any combination of the non-beginning fencing classes.  Instructor permission required for beginning class as it may be full.
